early October Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Youth Council The Youth Council offers opportunities for paraprofessional experiences within PAFA’s museum, including organizing events and programs for the museum’s expanding teen audience. Participants meet every week from October through May to explore the relationship between their peer group and art museums. They will have privileged access to PAFA’s art collection, staff and resources. In addition to creating, discussing and exploring art, they assist with planning and hosting events geared towards teens. FREE 9-12

Students will break into age-appropriate groups with trained and dedicated mentors to focus on:* Character building * Self-Awareness * Peer to peer mentoring * Communication /Conflict resolution * Social Engagement * Goal setting * Networking * Time Management * Developmental Skills * Leadership Development.

mid-October Minds Matter Philadelphia Minds Matter meets every Saturday from 10:30 AM-2:30 PM.  Students are assigned to mentors and they provide help with college planning and SAT prep.  Students must meet income and GPA requirements. FREE grades 9-10
late October Disney Dreamers Academy Disney Dreamers Academy is a 4-day, power-packed event that takes place in Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, in which 100 select high school students, ages 13-19, are inspired, motivated and prepared to dream big. Disney Dreamers experience:
  • Inspirational guest speakers with immersive presentations
  • Career activities ranging from animation, journalism and entrepreneurship, to culinary arts and zoology
  • Networking and interviewing opportunities

Drexel University High School Scholars Program The High School Scholars Program is a highly selective program that allows high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors to register for college courses – on a space-available basis – at Drexel University’s University City Campus while completing high school.
